Chronic Absenteeism from School

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2020-2021
This indicator shows students missing 10% or more of days enrolled in an academic year.

Why is this important?

Attending school is an important contributor to student success. It is also an important indicator districts are measured on to gauge how successfully they are serving their students. Missing as much as 10 percent of the school year, or approximately 18 days, can have adverse consequences for a child as early as kindergarten. Studies show students with high rates of absenteeism are less likely to be able to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade, are more likely to drop out in high school, and are less successful in college.
